I love covering IWD in the city because the energy surrounding the day is so inspirational and contagious. Instead of shooting the strike and rally like last year, I focused just on portraiture of the beautiful women in Washington Square Park for International Women's Day. It might be my favorite series yet and I hope in these images you see strong, independent and powerful women and girls.
Elysse at Overthrow
It's important to always stay inspired. Always jot down photoshoot ideas, whether it be models you want to collab with, a makeup story you have an idea for, an object you want to intergrate or locations you want to shoot.
I've had Overthrow Boxing on my list as a location I was dying to shoot at for at least a year. My sister introduced me to Elysse over Instagram and instantly knew she would be perfect for this location shoot. Elysse is a Soul Cycle instructor in Philly and happened to be in the city when our schedules lined up perfectly.
From there I told her what to wear and style her hair for the shoot. Around the boxing studio was Oddfellows Ice Cream (another place on my list) and the mural on Bowery. All locations lended to different vibes, yet weaved together seamlessly as a story.
