WOW Monday night was the best Monday I might have ever had. I arrived an hour early for press check in at Hudson Theatre for the Plaza Suite’s red carpet debut. And it did not disappoint.
Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick stepped onto the carpet hand in hand. SJP was drapped in a stunning sparkle baby pink gown created by friend and designer Prabal Gurung. The rest of the cast followed alongside producers before heading into the theatre to get ready for the opening act.
A NY first for me was being offered Hennessy by a bartender on the carpet to quench my thirst in the frigid winter weather. I passed - drinking and shooting isn’t a good idea in my book.
Attendees included Anna Wintour, Martin Short, Ashley Park, Leslie Mann, David Harbour and NYC Mayor Eric Adams. “Broadway is Back!” yelled Andy Cohen. He is right. Nothing says Broadway is Back more than Sex And The City icon in a play starring alongside her husband. Their children walked the carpet, a rarity for their very private family. The children smiled ear to ear to support their parents debut on the broadway stage.
And Just Like that co-stars Sarita Choudhury and Cynthia Nixon came to support as well as Carrie’s Russian lover Mikhail Baryshnikov. To see them all together was something surreal to a SATC obsessed watcher like myself.
I dreamed of moving to NYC and having my SATC moment, so shooting all of these people on the carpet for broadway was truly a pipe dream I never thought of.
